If the plants were only grown for the winter, they would still feed on winter grass, but there would also be enough plant matter when the summer began to fall that we wouldn't need to buy anything for a winter plant. And even when we did take the plants to the store for re-use (usually from other growers) we still would get free fruit. If we used the plants for something that needed a few more months for growing, that would be their business as well. And even though we usually had to buy fertilizer, that wasn't a problem to our neighbors, so we could have at least a few months' supply of fresh grass that we would buy to do the job.
But how many people would buy the same crop at the same time as the same food? So, do we ever have enough land to make enough for all our needs?
At the end of the year, at the very least I would consider myself a food expert because I can't afford to buy anything of the kind we buy. So, when I go grocery shopping, I buy everything I can get my hands on, including my little cornfield. But even as I say that I have no interest in any kind of food for my kids and children's children.
