Mental health professionals in England and Wales have warned that an unregulated supply of cannabis to schools may mean schools are failing to meet pupils' needs.
They said: "The amount of cannabis produced by the country's largest medical cannabis producer is not a subject of debate because it is available on-farm in all grades of medical treatment, including at home. Although it is regulated by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), local residents do not have the right to access to the dried cannabis for personal consumption."
They added: "The number of premises in which the sale of cannabis is currently permitted in England and Wales is an alarming one.
"With no clear regulatory framework for supplying medical cannabis to schools or on-farm businesses or homes, the Government has adopted a series of new guidance on the supply of cannabis."
Sebastian Hartley, chief executive of medical cannabis Association (MCA), said medical cannabis use was "absolutely vital in ensuring that the health of all the young people we work with is maximised" and that the industry would not be affected.
He said: "The government will work closely with local authorities to ensure school cannabis licensing is fully reviewed at school. The Government also has set up a Cannabis Education Task Force which will tackle the issue head
