"There are no known fatalities at that moment," said the FBI spokesman, Daniel Coppins. "The circumstances clearly do not warrant any action at this time."
In his report, the agency said one man died — that a kitten was poisoned. Coppins called it a matter of "speculation" and claimed this was the first incident of poisoning at its site during the season.
The FBI says the first incident involving a deadly poison occurred on October 15 when a female neighbor's home had been burglarized by a cat that was carrying the family's cat, a stray cat named R.P.Y.
The FBI says several incidents since spring have brought more than 3,000 cats into the wild and have resulted in an increased population of feral cats. This year was particularly unusual as more than 6,700 feral cats were killed and 1,150 injured.
Coppins said an individual found dead by his home in St. Croix was not identified and declined to comment outside the FBI office.
Coppins says an American Kennel Club official said it was "very difficult" to determine the cause of death, but a police report says there was no sign of death. The official said that one of the resident's cats was not poisoned: a male cat.
"People will not forget all his bad deed," Coppins said. "We'll never forget R.P
