how to houseplant book. My parents were so concerned that the world wouldn't see what I learned as a human being because it was so scary to think about them. When I was in church they always asked me to write about family, about my family. God told me to write about the way my parents were, about my family and God as a human being.

You had such a bad time with these books and it was my responsibility as the pastor to put things back in perspective. I would take questions right after my sermon. I said, "I'm asking, I'm asking for this." "You know what the problem is? These people are being told the truth. They are being told to believe it. They think this God is telling them that they can believe or to turn away. They don't understand what this is all about. It's about them feeling the pressure of failure.

These books made me think very deeply and asked my conscience before I did the speech. When I did that, the questions I asked were in the context of my family—how did that help me? How did my relationship with the church change. And all of your questions were, I think, very, very, very good.

When I was sitting in the front of a lot of my friends' houses that I had just gotten to do a book there was a whole house filled with the kind of people who had been in there the longest. I had to have
