The chemical reactions that happen in plants are regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency's Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) from 2002 until now.

When pesticides or other products are used to kill harmful insects known to cause cancer, humans who inhale toxic chemicals can develop asthma. In many cases, people may develop lung problems that interfere with their ability to breathe.

At least 929 people have died from breathing pesticides over the course of the 2016 U.S. presidential race – or, according to the National Weather Service, roughly 10 percent of all U.S. deaths each year.

The toxic chemicals used to help insects grow are called "toxic" insecticides and are often used to treat diseases affecting butterflies such as dengue fever, dengue fever-like illness, insect bites and other diseases.

The Chemical Association of America says the chemicals may affect some insects from their larvae to their young. But a group of agricultural scientists has already proposed a "target" to kill any insecticide plant that has been shown to pose an imminent threat to a bird or other animal.
